Frequently asked questions

How do I add the widget?

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle.
  2. Tap Edit → Add Widget (or the + button) in the top-left corner.
  3. Search for ExRate, choose the small or medium size, and tap Add Widget.

The widget shows your most recent conversion. Tap the swap button to switch the two currencies. The medium widget also lets you adjust the amount and the step size (×1 to ×1,000). To choose different currencies, open the app.

Why does the Lock Screen card turn off after 8 hours, and how do I turn it back on?

The Lock Screen card is a Live Activity. iOS allows a Live Activity to run for up to 8 hours and then ends it automatically. This is an iOS limit, not a setting in ExRate.

When the card turns off, it shows Turned Off with a ▶ button. To turn it back on:

If the card doesn’t appear at all, make sure Live Activities are allowed in Settings → ExRate → Live Activities.

While you use the buttons on the Lock Screen, iOS may also turn off the display after a few seconds. This is also an iOS limitation. Thank you for your understanding.

How often are exchange rates updated?

Rates are European Central Bank reference rates, provided by Frankfurter. They are published once per business day, usually around 16:00 Central European Time, and are not updated on weekends or public holidays.

Rates are for reference only. Rates used by banks and card companies for actual transactions may differ.

For more about the data involved, see the ExRate Privacy Policy.
